[SIGS Instructions to Authors]
If invited to submit to a short genome report to SIGS, authors may be provided with a preliminary rendering of an abstract that they should modify so that it accurately reflects the contents of the paper. Authors of unsolicited short genome reports should follow the same general guidelines. In either case, authors should strive to keep abstracts within the limit of 100 - 125 words.
At minimum the following information should be included in the general order outlined below:
The species name and reasons for general interest should be stated. The reasons for interest in this particular organism should be succinctly stated but in sufficient detail to explain the relevance of the project to the reader. This statement should be a slight expansion on the project relevance entry in the template manuscript.
Authors should clearly state whether or not the sequenced organism serves as a taxonomic type and at what rank(s) (e.g., subspecies, species, genus). Authors are discouraged from using names that do not have standing in the taxonomic literature. Strain designations and accession numbers for material as it was accessed from public culture collections should be also be stated.
Authors should provide a general description of the environment from which the organism was originally recovered including, whenever possible the geographical location and known range of distribution.
The abstract may conclude with a statement similar to: "Here we describe specific properties of the organism and the generation, annotation and analysis of its genome sequence."
